Guide to Action
Taking action to raise awareness about development may sound daunting at first, but if you break it down and take it one step at a time, you might find you'll surprise yourself at what you can achieve.
Reflect
Take some time out to reflect back on your expedition and consider the global issues you encountered. Your Raleigh expedition provided you with a unique opportunity to experience how communities across the world deal with social and economic hardship.
Whether you were involved with building kindergartens in Borneo or digging elephant-proof trenches in India, you witnessed first-hand the poverty and inequality experienced by some of the communities you worked with.
If you feel passionate about continuing to make a positive contribution, then transfer your passion to action and get your peers and community to support global development efforts.
Develop your skills
Effective action will result from a better understanding of the issues you are trying to communicate and who you are trying to target. This step of the process will help you identify your strengths and develop your confidence to raise awareness about global development efforts.
Whether you want to do this through blogging, public speaking or something more creative, Raleigh's Global Ambassador programme is designed to provide you with the skills you require. You'll be invited to residential training weekend packed full of workshops and inspirational talks, at which you'll be able to connect with other like-minded Raleigh alumni and relive that Raleigh buzz!
Inspire others
This step is all about inspiring others to make positive changes in their lives and consider the global implications of their actions. It's not always easy to get people to change their behaviour or care about issues facing communities thousands of miles away. But your personal experience of living and working with communities with limited access to basic services places you in an ideal position to motivate your peers.
Through sharing your experience, connecting it to wider development efforts and encouraging others to take action, you will quickly come to see the positive impact you can have.
