This year Raleigh International is taking part in Live Below the Line, an awareness and fundraising campaign which challenges individuals and communities to eat and drink on £1 a day for 5 days. The campaign gives participants and their support the chance to gain a small insight into the lives of the 1.2 billion people who live below the poverty line.

In our first year working in Tanzania, we have welcomed 431 volunteers from 23 different countries. Tanzania is a land of contradictions, it’s one of the world’s poorest countries whilst at the same time it has vast natural resources, enormous cultural diversity and is politically stable.

Raleigh International made its inaugural appearance in the Lord Mayor’s Show with great (albeit drenched) success on Saturday 9th November.

Raleigh International today released a survey which demonstrates that our younger generation are not as selfish as negative stereotypes would have us believe. Nearly 9 out of 10 respondents said they feel the need to help others and 91% aspire to do something of importance with their lives. The survey also revealed that three times as many young people were more concerned that millions of people around the world are living in poverty (46%) than worrying about having a nice car (17%).

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Kristin White who has recently stepped down as Executive Director of Raleigh International Bermuda. Raleigh Bermuda is a registered charity which helps fund young Bermudians onto Raleigh International expeditions, as well as giving longer term support to participants in their own communities.
