A new team to help continue our work in Nepal

Meet the Team: The People Behind Our Nepal Summer Programme

The managers, many of whom are Raleigh International alumni, will support the planning and delivery of our five, seven, and ten-week Expeditions. Their roles are crucial to ensuring young volunteers can work alongside rural communities and local partners to improve community resilience.

While ensuring everything runs smoothly on Expedition requires talented individuals with specialist operational, medical, and communication skills, the ability to work together is paramount.

The newly formed team started their journey by exploring Thamel, Kathmandu’s backstreets, sampling local delicacies from street stalls while sharing stories over a cup of chiyaa. Let’s meet the team:

Country Operations Manager

Alice, a West Ham supporter from London in the United Kingdom (UK), joins us from Raleigh, Tanzania, where she has been Country Operations Manager for the past two years. Alice brings a wealth of experience in project, program, and logistics management. She will support Pradeep from Kathmandu, responsible for successfully delivering our Summer Nepal program.

Country operations management is a challenging role that requires integrity in overseeing finance and logistics, managing and motivating staff, working with collaborative partners, and ensuring safeguarding policies are in place. Country operations managers also need to be excellent problem solvers to confidently address the complexity of delivering Raleigh International’s strategy in Nepal.

Deputy Country Management Team

Operations Managers

The deputy operation managers oversee all aspects of life on Expedition. With a passion for adventure, our four deputy operations managers manage the preparatory logistics, field adventure operations, and delivery of our community programs for the five, seven, and ten-week Expeditions.

This is a varied and demanding role, which involves planning and logistics, as well as facilitating the training and induction of our Volunteer Managers. Always on their toes, Lucy, Baibhav, Alistair, and Samir are committed to engaging rural communities in transformational change.

Medic

On Expedition, our team of expert medics looks after the health and well-being of our Volunteers and Volunteer Managers. There are many tasks in advance, and James, from the Lake District in the UK, has taken on this challenge. James has been busy checking and rechecking all medical supplies. Versatile and resourceful, James takes the safety of volunteers very seriously and has been visiting local hospitals in the city to ensure that the necessary facilities are in place should they be required.

Communications Team

Rachael, Expedition Photographer, and Susie, Communications Officer, make up our Communications Team for the summer program. They share a passion for discovery, creativity, and youth engagement in civil society. They will document the impact of Raleigh’s development work, capture key moments of Expedition life, and portray the voice of the community, project partners, and youth volunteers in building a more sustainable future. Rachael, a freelance photographer from Edinburgh in the UK, has previously volunteered for Raleigh International as Expedition Photographer in Costa Rica & Nicaragua. Operation Raleigh alumni Susie joins us from Nottingham, UK, where she worked as an academic and author.
