Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)/Agua, sanemiento e hygiene (WASH)
In Nicaragua, many rural communities must walk for hours a day to access safe drinking water.
We are aiming to tackle this by working alongside community members to build or restore water systems. These water systems enable the communities to have easy access to safe drinking water as well as, water to use for cooking, showering and washing their hands.
Over the next three months, our volunteers will be working in two communities in the Rio Blanco region in North Nicaragua. Here, they will be working with community members to build water systems and reinforce knowledge on hygiene and sanitation.
En Nicaragua, pobladores de muchas comunidades rurales deben caminar por varias horas al día para tener acceso a agua potable.
Nuestro objetivo es hacer frente a este problema trabajando con los miembros de la comunidad para construer o reestablecer los sistemas de agua potable. Estos sistemas ayudarán a la comunidad a tener acceso seguro a agua potable, la que utilizan para cocinar, bañarse y lavar las manos.
Por los siguientes tres meses, nuestros voluntaries trabajarán en dos comunidades en Rio Blanco, region del norte de Nicaragua. Aquí, ellos trabajarán con los miembros de la comunidad para construir sistemas de agua y reforzar conocimientos sobre higiene y saneamiento.
Natural Resource Management/Manejo de Recursos Naturales
As the climate swiftly changes, areas with a biodiversity as rich as Costa Rica are suffering.
Our Natural Resource Management program is working towards implementing the sustainability of natural resources in communities, which are directly impacted by climate change.
During our time in the National Parks in Costa Rica, our volunteers will be helping on two different projects. One will be in Horizontes Experimental Forest in the Northwest of Costa Rica working towards protecting the dry forest, which is in danger due to global warming.
Whilst our other team will be working on a farm in the indigenous area of Matambu in Northwest Costa Rica to contribute to the maintenance of the area as well as, to raise awareness of environmental issues through action days and campaigns.
Como el clima cambia rápidamente , áreas ricas en biodiversidad como Costa Rica están sufriendo.
Nuestro programa de Manejo de Recursos Naturales trabaja por la implementación de la sostenibilidad de los recursos naturales en las comunidades que son directamente afectadas por el cambio climático.
Durante nuestro tiempo en parques nacionales de Costa Rica, nuestros voluntaries estarán trabajando en dos diferentes proyectos. Uno de ellos será en Bosque Experimental Horizontes en el noreste de Costa Rica trabajando por la protección del bosque seco, el cual está en peligro a causa del calentamiento global.
Mientras que el otro equipo estará trabajando en una granja en la zona indigena de Matambu en el noreste de Costa Rica para contribuir al mantenimiento del área, hacer campañas de concientización sobre medio ambiente a través de días de acción.
Youth Leadership (20 day trek)/Liderazgo juvenile (20 días de caminata)
One of our main focuses is the importance of youth and how young people from around the world empower one another. Through this empowerment, they fuel positive lasting change.
To emphasise the importance of young people working together as well as, leadership, our volunteers go on a 20 day trek as part of their three month experience.
On this trek, they cover a gruelling 260km whilst carrying all of their kit. They work as a team to stay on track, overcome any challenges they may face and keep each other motivated along the way. It’s an incredible opportunity to be challenged and to develop as a person whilst also witnessing an abundance of spectacular scenery along the way.
Over the next three months our volunteers will either partake in the Miratombo trek. A hike, which starts in the far North of Nicaragua and weaves its way down past lush landscapes, serene lakes and remarkable volcanoes. Or, they will do the Guanacaste trek in Costa Rica that begins in Palmita and finishes on the secluded beach of Playa Junquillal.
Both equally challenge yet, equally rewarding.
Uno de nuestros principales enfoques es la importancia de la juventud y como los jóvenes alrededor del mundo se empoderán unos a otros. A través de este empoderamiento ellos crean un cambio positive y verdadero.
Para enfatizar la importancia de que los jóvenes trabajen juntos, así como el liderazgo, nuestros voluntarios realizan una caminata de 20 días como parte de su experiencia de tres meses.
En esta caminata, cubren extenuantes 260 km mientras cargan todo lo necesario. Trabajan en equipo para mantenerse en el buen camino, superar los desafíos que puedan enfrentar y mantenerse motivados. Es una oportunidad increíble para ser desafiado y desarrollarse como persona a la vez que es testigo de una abundancia de paisajes espectaculares en el camino.
Durante los próximos tres meses, nuestros voluntarios participarán en la caminata de Miratombo. Una caminata, que comienza en el extremo norte de Nicaragua y se abre camino a través de paisajes exuberantes, lagos serenos y volcanes notables. O bien, harán la caminata por Guanacaste en Costa Rica que comienza en Palmita y termina en la apartada playa de Playa Junquillal.
Ambos desafíos igualmente, igualmente gratificante.
