What is Natural Resource Management?/¿Qué es la gestión de recursos naturales?

Why do we work in Natural Resource Management?/¿Por qué trabajamos en la gestión de recursos naturales?

Our environment is precious. We need it to survive. Yet, due to issues such as, the misuse and overconsumption of natural resources, climate change, poaching and deforestation, our natural resources are running out at an alarming rate.

These factors are having a detrimental impact on the environment as well as, the people who depend on it, leading to an upsetting decrease in biodiversity, wildlife, food and safe and clean water across the world.

It is due to these worrying environmental knock-on-effects that we work in Natural Resource Management – protecting the environment one tree at a time and supporting communities to better manage their natural resources to generate jobs, value and well-being.

Nuestro ambiente es precioso Lo necesitamos para sobrevivir Sin embargo, debido a problemas tales como el uso indebido y el consumo excesivo de recursos naturales, el cambio climático, la caza furtiva y la deforestación, nuestros recursos naturales se están agotando a un ritmo alarmante. 

Estos factores están teniendo un impacto perjudicial en el medio ambiente y en las personas que dependen de él, lo que lleva a una disminución inquietante en la biodiversidad, la vida silvestre, los alimentos y el agua potable y limpia en todo el mundo. 

Es debido a estos preocupantes efectos secundarios que trabajamos en la gestión de recursos naturales: proteger el medio ambiente árbol por árbol y ayudar a las comunidades a administrar mejor sus recursos naturales para generar empleos, valor y bienestar.

Why Costa Rica?/Por qué Costa Rica?

Costa Rica has an astounding 4% of the world’s biodiversity and a quarter of the country’s land is protected. However, despite this, Costa Rica’s environment is fragile and subject to many threats such as, poaching, pollution and deforestation, which is damaging the country’s impressive ecosystem.

We work in Costa Rica to preserve its abundant biodiversity and statistics as well as, to ensure long-term conservation within the country. The more we can protect Costa Rica’s rich environment and wildlife, the more the local communities can thrive from it.

Costa Rica tiene un asombroso 4% de la biodiversidad mundial y una cuarta parte de la tierra del país está protegida. Sin embargo, a pesar de esto, el medio ambiente de Costa Rica es frágil y está sujeto a muchas amenazas, como la caza furtiva, la contaminación y la deforestación, que está dañando el impresionante ecosistema del país.

Trabajamos en Costa Rica para preservar su abundante biodiversidad y estadísticas impresionantes, así como para garantizar la conservación a largo plazo dentro del país. Cuanto más podamos proteger el rico ambiente y la vida silvestre de Costa Rica, más prosperarán las comunidades locales.

What will we be doing in Costa Rica?/¿Qué haremos en Costa Rica?

Over the next three months, our volunteers will be working in two National Parks in the Guanacaste Region in the Northwest of Costa Rica – Horizontes Experimental Forest and the indigenous area of Matambu. Here, they will be building and maintaining trails to make the National Parks more accessible to Scientists and tourists and will also be helping with reforestation.

The building of trails will improve access to protected areas but will limit where people can walk – protecting the animals and the forest. It will also help prevent forest fires from spreading so easily.

In addition to this, our volunteers will be raising awareness about our precious environment to encourage the local communities to see the National Parks as an opportunity rather than a threat. As well as, addressing environmental issues and promoting the importance of recycling and not littering.

Durante los próximos tres meses, nuestros voluntarios trabajarán en dos parques nacionales en la región de Guanacaste en el noroeste de Costa Rica: el bosque experimental de Horizontes y el área indígena de Matambu. Aquí, construirán y mantendrán senderos para que los Parques Nacionales sean más accesibles para los científicos y los turistas, y también ayudarán con la reforestación. 

La construcción de senderos mejorará el acceso a las áreas protegidas, pero limitará el lugar donde las personas pueden caminar, protegiendo a los animales y al bosque. También ayudará a evitar que los incendios forestales se propaguen tan fácilmente. 

Además de esto, nuestros voluntarios crearán conciencia sobre nuestro valioso entorno para alentar a las comunidades locales a ver los Parques Nacionales como una oportunidad en lugar de una amenaza. Además de abordar problemas ambientales y promover la importancia de no tirar basura y reciclar.

Our two Natural Resource Management projects are now underway. Both our groups of eager volunteers are working hard to get started on implementing their project plans in the National Parks.

Nuestros dos proyectos de gestión de recursos naturales están en marcha. Nuestros dos grupos de voluntarios entusiastas están trabajando arduamente para comenzar a implementar sus planes de proyecto en los Parques Nacionales.
