How better to celebrate International Youth Day better than with a good old fashioned game of football? Sixteen different charities, all based in Nepal, came together last Sunday to compete against each other with the goal of conquering the indoor football – or futsal – tournament trophy. Raleigh Nepal was one of the sponsors for this tournament, so our team was really determined to win the price.
Setting up a great and also diverse football team, consisting of the best football players, we were very confident about our winning chances.

The theme of the tournament was ‘Youth Building Peace’. In our country office it brought together different departments, nationalities and ages towards the common goal of winning. We trained for every evening after work for a week on a nearby football field, so we were quite sure we would win at least one of the trophies. After smashing the first game with a win of 4-0, it sadly went downhill and we lost the next two games.

Nevertheless, we are very proud of our team and despite the fact that we did not bring any prizes back to our country office, we still had an amazing day and got to meet other NGOs and INGOs who together are working in Nepal to promote youth in international development.

Even though our team is not the official winner of the tournament, the rest of the Raleigh Nepal team have been inspired by the energy and passion our team put into the training and the games themselves. They are our true winners.
