It's already been two weeks since NE5 and NE4 were deployed to the communities of Quireni (NE5) and Gaucharan (NE4), situated in the Gorkha district. The groups are working on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects, funded by BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA. Two employees of BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA, Dimitri and Leila are participating as Volunteer Managers. This blog will shed more light on the purpose of these projects, and especially why they are so important for Quireni and for Gaucharan.

The first three weeks of expedition 17I have already passed and the groups have been reunited for their first changeover. We also welcome 10 new 7-week Venturers who are joining the expedition for phases 2 and 3. Changeover is a time for swapping stories, debriefs, some healthy competition and of course phase two allocations before the groups are deployed to their new projects.

We in the November Charlie 5 team, having arrived in the beautiful and welcoming community of Kaliban, Makwanpur, spent our first week planning our schedule and conducting house to house visits. This was so as to get the necessary details to begin work on the water distribution tank which once installed, will be of benefit to all of the community. At the end of that week we assembled at the construction site with great anticipation and excitement to start our work.

On 2nd July, it marked 10 days since we arrived at training and this experience began. For us, November Charlie 8, we used half of the day to get to know each other a bit better and took the time to reflect on what we have done so far. We went down to the river, and sat on the rocks and chatted about our experiences so far.

November Charlie 9 consists of nine volunteers: Tim, Harriet, Hussien, Pratikshya, Imogen, Hester, Jack, Sajan and Ayush and two team leaders Baibhav and Hattie. We arrived in Adamar on 27th June 2017 at around 1500 hours. We had to walk about 25 minutes to get to our homes. The view from our host homes seems to get more and more beautiful as we go up the hill.

Hello and welcome to November Charlie 6’s first post from the beautiful village of Dumrekuna! Fred and Sudeep, the team leaders from the previous phase earlier this year set a tough act to follow, but we have already got off well on a variety of fronts in our first week here.

After hours of windy, narrow roads that lorries attempt to pass each other on, we finally arrived in Kaliban. We were greeted with luscious scenery, smiling faces and the Nepalese greeting, “Namaste.” Throughout the team’s first week in Kaliban, we have found that everyone is so welcoming and the children of the community are especially enthusiastic to chat to these foreign faces walking through their village. Around the village, we found plenty of children wanting to play with us, along with the stuff we were carrying. So, what better way to introduce ourselves to them and the community than a Youth Olympics?
