It has been another successful week for the volunteers and entrepreneurs in Kyimo. This week we focused on the Business Model Canvas and our Community Action Day; a football match at Kyimo Secondary School.

On Monday we introduced the Business Model Canvas (BMC) to the entrepreneurs. This is an effective and simple way for entrepreneurs to achieve lift off for their new business. We looked at the example of a local shop and Coca Cola to understand how the BMC can apply to all kinds of business. We followed this up on Tuesday with a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) and a business workshop from our project partners, EADD (East Africa Dairy Development).

On Wednesday we conducted a final practice BMC session with the entrepreneurs on a business of their choice and their understanding was fantastic. This led to the production of their first business plan with some fantastic ideas including artificial insemination, feed supply and good hygiene practice.

In the afternoon we worked on a banner to raise awareness for our action day and gave out flyers and posters in order to generate interest in town. The following morning we bought milk to produce 25 litres of milkshake to trial at the Community Action Day. We were warmly welcomed at the school by children and teachers alike. We gave a speech about the benefits of milk and fed back to the community on the results of our baseline surveys. The football match itself was attended by over 600 people and while we were unlucky to lose 2-1, the banana milkshake went down a treat!
