Volunteer as a Raleigh Medic. Use your skills to support young people to create lasting change overseas. Our volunteering programmes are based in Costa Rica, Nepal and Tanzania.
If you are a nurse, doctor or paramedic with at least two years post qualification experience you can apply to be part of Raleigh’s international medic team.
Medics in Tanzania
In Tanzania, you will support volunteers across multiple programmes, including Expedition and ICS. This is a unique opportunity to experience the ‘behind the scenes’ of Raleigh projects and be part of the central operations team that leads the response to incidents.
You will spend the majority of the time based in our permanent office in Morogoro, supporting groups remotely. You will likely visit teams on their project sites to provide first hand support, and will have a distinct role from our project managers.
Medics in Costa Rica
Our Costa Rica medics spend the majority of Expedition out with teams on remote project sites or trekking on a youth leadership project. Here you will very much be sharing the project manager role, leading and guiding volunteer groups and using your medical skills as and when required.
In Costa Rica, medics may also spend up to one third of the Expedition based at our permanent office in Turrialba, where you will provide remote support to teams out on projects.
Medics in Nepal
As in Costa Rica, most of our Nepal medics share the responsibilities of project managers for the majority of Expedition. You would lead our volunteers on project sites or trek, and draw on your medical skills where necessary. You may also spend time at our permanent office in Kathmandu, remotely supporting all programmes including ICS and Expeditions.
We also recruit ICS Medics for Nepal who spend the majority of their time assisting teams from the country office, whilst making occasional visits to support teams on project sites. Nepal ICS medics will not share project manager responsibilities.
