In 2016 BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA and Raleigh International entered in to a three-year partnership to make significant lasting impact in Nepal. With support from BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA, Raleigh will deliver sustainable development projects through young international and Nepalese volunteers who will work with some of the poorest and hardest hit rural communities. The bank’s investment in Raleigh programmes will make a difference in a country badly in need of help, providing vital funding, skills and volunteers which is required in order to deliver Raleigh’s intended outcomes Nepal.
In the first year of the partnership, BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA employees will volunteer on a skills-based volunteering programme with Raleigh, using their financial skills and business acumen to support youth entrepreneurs, passing on their skills and experience to help these start-up micro-enterprises. The bank is also providing funding for Raleigh’s WASH programme in the first year, enabling delivery of vital Sanitation and hygiene project work as well as also funding Nepali Host Country Volunteers to participate in Raleigh and gain leadership and soft skill development.
Over the following two years, more BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA employees will be participating as Volunteers and Volunteer Project Managers on Raleigh Expedition programmes in Nepal to further support our work – helping to make build awareness and understanding of key global issues for the bank’s employees whilst at the same time giving them a unique personal and professional development experience. Through grants from the bank and further staff fundraising campaigns BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA will also be continuing to generously fund Raleigh’s programmes in Nepal.
“We share the values of inspiring young people to make a positive change, values that are embedded in Raleigh International’s work in Nepal. That is why we are proud to support such projects, and to contribute to a sustainable future through providing safe water and sanitation and creating young leaders.”
The partnership represents a ‘win-win’ both for BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA and for Raleigh. It is intended that this partnership will deliver impact on the ground in Nepal, motivation within the bank, and leadership development for both the bank’s staff and young Nepalese people.
Both organisations are now looking ahead to the next 3 years and to being able to make a difference with a partnership brings BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA one step forward to demonstrating that it is the ‘Bank for a Changing World’.
“The spirit of Nepal’s rural communities following the earthquakes last year has been incredible. This exciting partnership will strengthen the resilience of those affected, contribute to lasting change, and help to build a youth leadership culture. We would like to give BNP Paribas (Suisse) SA a warm welcome to the Raleigh family and thank them for being part of our mission to create lasting change through youth.”
