We will support you…

We’re here to ensure that you’ll be fully prepared and have the confidence to be an inspiring and motivating volunteer manager. You don’t need to have all the skills before you join. We have a dedicated team here at Raleigh to support you with information and training in the lead up to and during your time on your Expedition.

Before you go…

Once you’ve been offered your place on Expedition you’ll have lots to prepare. Our volunteer delivery team will send you everything you need to know; details about vaccinations and equipment, advice on flights and much, much more.

We are also here to support you with your fundraising. Our fundraising guide is full of ideas and tips to get you started. If you have any questions or queries, you can get in touch with us at any point via email, text, phone or through your Expedition Facebook group.

Your pre-expedition training…

If you are based in the UK you’ll be invited to a training weekend before you go. You will meet the Raleigh UK training team; learn more about Raleigh’s work, what you will be doing on your Expedition, the planned projects and our approach to sustainable development. You will also receive training on group facilitation and we will start to talk to you about how you can support the personal development of young people.

We strongly advise anyone who can make the weekend to do so. If you are based abroad or are unable to attend we will make other arrangements to ensure you have all the necessary information and are prepared for your Expedition.

When you arrive in country…

Our staff will greet you at the airport and take you to the Expedition fieldbase, our local office. Now it’s time to get settled, meet your fellow volunteer managers and our in-country staff. This is the beginning of 10 days of intensive Expedition training and project visits to help prepare you for when the volunteers arrive. Throughout the Expedition our permanent staff will be there to support you with anything you need.

Once the volunteers arrive you will deliver a condensed version of the training to help inspire and motivate them for the Expedition ahead.

After you get back…

You’ve done it! Welcome back and most importantly, welcome to the Raleigh family! There’s a lot of us. Over 40,000 alumni from all around the world and counting… After Expedition, you should be bursting with energy and inspiration – imagine all you can achieve! After you’ve arrived home, had a hot shower (or two) and bored your friends, family and work colleagues with all your stories, have a look at our opportunities to stay involved.
