One of the things that makes Raleigh International so special is that the vast majority of our staff are Raleigh Alumni. We have full-time staff in all the countries where we work who are dedicated, resourceful and totally committed to ensuring they deliver the best Raleigh Expedition experience, every single time. You’ll have your own coordinator to support you prior to departure and they’ll be the main point of contact for anyone back home.
Lucy, Managing Director
As the Managing Director, I lead our marketing, recruitment and pre-departure teams and work closely with our Country Directors and Expedition Delivery teams. My professional background is deeply rooted in the not-for-profit sector and so leading an organisation that prioritises youth leadership and volunteering at its core, and whose values resonate with my own, is a source of great pride. This role is more than a professional commitment for me; as a mother to a 12-year-old boy, it holds deep personal significance. I’m half Spanish and so speak the language. I love to dance, read crime novels, enjoy the sea and mountains and go to the arcade with my son!
Ella, Expedition Experience Manager
As the Expedition Experience Manager, I oversee the customer expedition experience from start to finish. Working closely with our Operational delivery teams, and Raleigh management team to standardise systems, processes, and ultimately delivering the Raleigh Magic. I also support managing our health and safety and incident management systems. I have been on Expedition to Costa Rica in 2016 as a Venturer, and worked at Raleigh within the Volunteer Journey and Recruitment teams over the last 4 years. I am passionate about supporting young people to create impact. I also aim to do this in my personal life through being an active junior volleyball coach, as well as training and competing myself in my free time.
Helen, Head of Marketing
I work alongside our Communications and Recruitment teams to spread the word about Raleigh International Expeditions and inspire as many people to take this life-changing step as possible. After going on a Raleigh International Expedition in 2003, I’ve been working (mostly) in the world of youth and adventure travel ever since. My favourite saying is: ‘We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us’. My favourite things are my daughter, doing anything outdoorsy with friends, yoga and dancing.
Alison, Venturer Expedition Specialist
I am one of the first in-person points of contact (unless you’ve met Jacob at an event). I review applications and use all sorts of platforms, live chat, emails, calls, teams, WhatsApp to help anyone interested find the right programme for them and guide them into becoming apart of our Raleigh Alumni family. I have a degree in Geography and International Development and have taken part in a similar programme to Raleigh in 2016 in Uganda. I have a background of working in the charity sector and lived in Iceland for a year supporting the Red Cross. I love love love warm weather and have backpacked across South America and South Africa. In my spare time you’ll find me hunting down the sun (I know-hard work living in the UK).
Kieran, Venturer Expedition Specialist
As a Raleigh Venturer Expedition Specialist, I’m one of the first in-person points of contact for anyone interested in joining a Raleigh Expedition. I host talks, events and chat to prospective Venturers across all our platforms.
I completed my own Raleigh Expedition in Nepal in 2019, one of the best things I’ve ever done, and have also travelled through Asia and a lot of Europe! I’m passionate about travel, exploring new places and cultures, and now help support young people in preparing for life-changing adventures whilst championing Raleigh’s mission.
Rachel, Digital Marketing Assistant
As Digital Marketing Assistant, I work alongside the Marketing and Communications team to keep the Raleigh website looking beautiful. When I’m not working, you’re likely to find me somewhere in the great outdoors, hiking, running or crewing on hot air balloons. I’ve trekked long-distance across Aotearoa NZ, Nepal, Portugal and Spain (amongst others) and am currently on a two + year streak of running everyday.
Sherrilynn, Venturer Coordinator
I oversee our Venturers (and their families), from the time they book to when they arrive back home. Having grown up in South Africa my whole life I have always wanted to make a positive change where I live. With a background in safety and events co-ordination I have a passion for management and helping our Venturers to get ready for their adventure with a purpose.
Harriet, Venturer Coordinator
I support Venturers before, during and after their Expedition. I first experienced Raleigh as a volunteer in India and Borneo, which sparked my passion for sustainable development. I went on to study International Development at university and have since travelled and worked in various countries, including Australia and on projects in Zanzibar. I have worked with Raleigh since 2023, initially on the ground in South Africa as Expedition Manager, where I was part of the original team that helped establish Raleigh SA. Now living between the UK and South Africa, I bring a strong, practical understanding of Raleigh Expeditions from both the volunteer and operational side, and a deep passion for supporting Venturers to have a similarly impactful experience.
Jackie Gibb, Medical Support
I am a GP and expedition medic based in Bristol with a background in emergency medicine. I have travelled extensively throughout Asia , Africa and South and Central America and have worked on expeditions in over 20 countries. I also teach expedition medicine and much prefer working outdoors to sitting at a desk.
Hanz, Expedition Manager
My Raleigh journey began as a Venturer on the 17T ICS programme in Nicaragua, working on livelihoods projects. With a background in Political Science and International Relations, focused on Management and Leadership, I’m a peace and climate advocate with over six years’ experience delivering international projects. I’ve represented global initiatives as a One Young World and Best Diplomats Ambassador. I lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Raleigh Expeditions in Costa Rica, ensuring Venturers have a safe, impactful, and memorable experience, while maintaining high programme quality and strategic policy implementation.
Genecis, Country Operations Manager ITG
I’m a Venezuelan geographer with a passion for travel and cultural exploration. With over 10 years of experience working with young people and managing operations across Latin America, I combine expertise in Health and Safety with a strong focus on building effective teams and delivering impactful projects. I oversees strategic operations, fosters partnerships, and ensures financial health, all while contributing to meaningful travel experiences.
Ana, Operations Coordinator – Adventure Projects
I design and facilitate the adventure challenge part of the Expedition for the Venturers. I also coordinate tailored group experiences, combining logistics with cultural and educational depth. I have a strong background in tourism, environmental volunteering, cultural initiatives and youth leadership and have worked in that area since 2016. I currently lead the Yaji Yazra Majimi Cultural Association, promoting local identity and sustainable community development. I’m Costa Rican and committed to meaningful travel, social impact, and intercultural connection.
Natalia, Operations Coordinator- Community Projects
I’m a Costa Rican Social Worker with experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing community-based social projects. My work focuses on addressing social vulnerability through data-driven planning, participatory methodologies, and multisectoral collaboration. I’m deeply passionate about advocating for human rights and strengthening community resilience. My background includes work in human rights, mental health, and educational support, along with specialized training in conflict resolution. Volunteering has been an important part of my life for the past 10 years, so I am excited to support Venturers in their journey and learn from diverse cultures, and work hand -in-hand with rural communities.
Sebas, Food and Beverage Coordinator
My Raleigh journey started in 2024 when I volunteered with Raleigh Costa Rica as a Project Coordinator (PC). I’m from Nicaragua and have a degree in business administration, a technical degree in gastronomy and experience in the hotel and restaurant industry. I’m in charge of creating and planning menus for the Raleigh Costa Rica and the different projects. I also work in the kitchen alongside Michi and Oscar, and manage the budgets assigned to the department.
Pedro, General Services and Finance Manager
My Raleigh journey started as a Venturer with Raleigh Nicaragua for an ICS program back in 2016. My experience is in software engineering projects with finance and logistics specialisms. I ensure high standards of safety are kept in the logistical area. I manage the coordination of payments with external suppliers to obtain services and goods and perform maintenance; as well as coordinating the replacement of equipment and tools. Through close work with the coordination team and on-site suppliers, I arrange transportation for Venturers as needed for the Expedition.
Stacey, Country Director
Stacey leads the development of Raleigh South Africa and is responsible for the organisation’s general management. South African born and bred, Stacey has extensive experience in volunteer travel.
Jason, Operations Manager ITG
Jason has been involved in outdoor adventure and conservation since 2008, working as a white water rafting guide, a field guide and ranger. He has worked all over Africa and the UK on conservation projects, most recently leading volunteer projects in Zanzibar. He is passionate about protecting the environment, uplifting local communities and adventure.
Luke, Expedition Manager
I am a dynamic Outdoor/ Adventure and Nature guide with over 20 years experience in various roles and departments of the adventure, outdoor education and wildlife tourism industries. The culmination of my experience is what drives my passion for interacting with people and sharing my love for the great outdoors. It is both my privilege and purpose to be able to step outside, explore, share, watch people grow and learn from the greatest teacher of all – Mother Nature.
Katie, Environmental Consultant and Research Manager – ITG
Born in the UK, Katie has volunteered around the world, but her heart lies here in South Africa. With a background in ecology and conservation, Katie combined those skills with training as a field guide. She has a passion for nature and the environment, and believes education about our natural world can benefit everyone.

Adventure, people, and meaningful experiences have always been at the heart of who I am. With over three years of experience in tourism operations and logistics, I enjoy creating seamless experiences that help others explore, learn, and grow. I thrive on connecting with people, embracing new challenges, and supporting journeys that inspire confidence, growth, and positive change.
Queeneth – Conservation Guide
I hold qualifications in Nature guide, Responsible Resource Use and Facilitation. I have worked with conservation programs with communities around my area. I have been guiding for some time. I’m very passionate about conservation and I want to contribute positively with a practical hands-on approach to conservation.

Evie is no stranger to adventure, spending her free time hiking, biking and running, you’ll always find her outdoors (especially when it’s sunny!). Having studied Environmental Science at university she is committed to making a lasting difference on the world around her and loves to support the development of others along the way!
Shadreck, Head Trek Guide
Shadreck is an Outward Bound Instructor and a professional tour guide, has been working with youth development programs since from 1995. He was involved with Raleigh international as a venturer in Belize 1998. He is passionate about working with young people and interacting with people of different cultures.
Lucius, Trek Guide
Lucius has been guiding for 4 years now in the mountainous region of the Blyde River Canyon. Specialising in mountain walking and cultural guiding, Lucius has a great passion for outdoor experiences and exploring South Africa’s Biodiversity.
Grace, Conservation Guide
Born in South Africa and raised in the United States, Grace is passionate about the outdoors and community. She returned to South Africa in 2024 for her adoptee heritage trip which reignited her passion to work in Southern African conservation at the intersection of impactful and transformative travel . She is a NQF2 nature guide and holds a BSc in Zoology and MSc in Conservation Project Management.
Rory, Regional Director
Raleigh is very close to my heart having been a trekking Project Manager in Costa Rica, a deputy Expedition Leader in Fiji, and Expedition Leader/Country Director in Borneo in my younger years. I’ve seen the impact Raleigh has on young people and the communities/environments in which they work, and it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I think about it. Raleigh has had a profound impact on my life too – I learnt a lot during my 4 years and 10 or so Expeditions. I am delighted to see Raleigh back doing what it does best, and especially in Borneo.
Melanie, Country Director
I have over 30 years of professional work experience in Tourism & Hospitality, HR Management, F&B management, Events Management and Community Development engagements. I’m passionate about making a difference with local communities around Borneo. I volunteer with NGOs and hold leadership roles such as Chairman of the Sabah Tourist Association and a EXCO member of Soroptimist International Kota Kinabalu; transforming the lives of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities. I enjoy nature, the outdoors and responsible travel. I’m thrilled to be part of Raleigh Borneo, contributing to impactful and meaningful experiences for all involved in an inspiring and transformative way.
Ann, Expedition Manager
I am an educator, youth advocate and an environmentalist. I have been living and working in Brunei running an NGO focused on marine conservation, education, local empowerment and sustainability seeking solutions for Brunei that protect their forests and reefs. My career has been filled with advocating for those who have lost their voices and championing their cause. Creating positive change by empowering people with the skills to bring about positive change in their lives and communities.
I am passionate about working towards meaningful change and have learned that purpose doesn’t always follow a plan. My life of adventure has been born out of my willingness to say yes. It has taken me to the depths of the Borneo jungle working in orangutan conservation to the depths of the ocean working in marine conservation to riding motorcycles coast to coast across continents. Sometimes you just need to let your heart lead the way.

I have over 25 years of experience in the tourism industry. I’m a very easy going person and a good listener. I enjoy outdoor activities such as trekking, running and camping. Apart from loving nature and learning to live in a sustainable and responsible environment, I love cooking, eating and of course travelling!
Norasyikin, (Ekin) Accounts Manager
I have always had a genuine love for numbers and an endless passion for anything related to them. Jumping from the corporate world to the tourism industry was the best decision I ever made. Unlike the typical 9-5 desk job, I get to dive deep into my work while also enjoying the great outdoors, and meeting fascinating people. It’s been 7 years since I made the leap, and I’ve never looked back! Joining Raleigh is a new adventure for me and I’m ready to be the behind-the-scenes hero, making magic happen without the spotlight.
Abner (Ab), Project Manager / Social Media & Marketing Support
After completing my studies in Tourism Management, I’ve gained 10 years experience in running Expeditions. My love of the outdoors—trekking, camping, and sports—has always been a big part of my life and continues to fuel my enthusiasm for what I do. One of the highlights was my first climb up Mount Kinabalu, made unforgettable because I did it with Jonny Wilkinson, a legend from the 2003 Rugby World Cup. What inspires me the most is witnessing the positive impact our organisation has on to the local communities of Sabah, Borneo and globally as a whole. It’s an honour to be part of a team dedicated to creating a better future and I’m excited to continue this journey and hope to meet many more Venturers to share these meaningful experiences!

I have over 11 years of experience in the Human Resources and Tourism industry. I’m versatile, dedicated and always positive. About the role
The Expedition Manager is responsible for delivering exceptional Raleigh Expedition programs in Costa Rica. This includes managing all aspects of the volunteer experience, from health and safety to project implementation and expedition operations. As a senior leader, you will:
a) Oversee daily operations, ensuring a high-quality Raleigh Expedition experience.
b) Manage a team of temporary staff, delegating tasks and providing guidance.
c) Collaborate with project coordinators and the operations team to ensure successful program execution.
d) Participate in budget development and tracking, ensuring financial sustainability.
e) Contribute to program design including field visits, partnerships and project coordination.
f) Drive innovation and problem-solving within the organization’s framework.
This role requires strong leadership, operational management skills, and a commitment to delivering transformative experiences for young people. You will report to the Country Ops Manager and collaborate with other Brand Managers, Project Coordinators, and Operations Staff.
Key responsibilities:
Planning and Innovation for Success
Program Planning & Development
- Develop seasonal operational plans based on previous cycles, considering capacity, budgets, programme improvements and participant feedback.
- Build and maintain the expedition master schedule, updating itineraries and operational documentation as required.
- Identify opportunities for programme development, including new project sites and community partnerships.
Pre-Arrival Coordination
- Coordinate with the Raleigh UK office and in-country partners to ensure participant information, documentation and logistics are in place before arrival.
- Manage pre-arrival communications and respond to operational enquiries.
- Coordinate arrival logistics for volunteer groups.
Financial Planning & Management
- Develop and manage Expedition budgets in collaboration with Finance and senior management.
- Monitor expenditure, seek approval for budget variances and submit accurate financial reporting.
- Support budgeting and expenditures monitoring for programme delivery and operational maintenance.
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support strategic decision-making and ensure operational systems align with ITG health, safety and quality standards.
Programme Delivery and Customer Experience
Health & Safety
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of health, safety and risk management systems.
- Ensure staff are trained and compliant with ITG health and safety standards.
- Coordinate incident response alongside the Incident Management Team.
- Maintain all safety documentation, including risk assessments, emergency procedures and response resources.
Programme Operations
- Oversee the delivery of Expedition operations, ensuring a safe, high-quality participant
experience. - Manage logistics for expeditions and events, including groups of up to 200 participants.
- Review and improve itineraries and operational procedures.
- Act as Duty Manager on a rota basis across ITG brands.
- Provide operational support during Expeditions, including an on-call rota.
- Regularly visit project sites to monitor quality, logistics and operational standards.
Project Management
- Support Project Leaders in delivering high-quality community and environmental projects.
- Identify and develop new project opportunities with partner organisations.
- Ensure projects align with Raleigh’s values, safeguarding and ethical standards.
- Oversee project logistics and resource allocation.
Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor programme performance using operational data, participant feedback and key
performance indicators. - Implement staff performance reviews for temporary expedition staff.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, learning and problem-solving across expedition operations.
People and Relationship Management
Team Leadership
- Lead, manage and develop the Expedition operations team, including Project Leaders, Coordinators, interns, community representatives and temporary staff.
- Support staff development through coaching, performance management and regular feedback.
- Manage staffing plans, schedules and recruitment for expedition operations.
Stakeholder & Community Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Ensure providers meet ITG operational, health and safety, sustainability and compliance standards, maintaining all required documentation and contracts.
- Represent Raleigh professionally with participants, communities and external partners.
- Maintain regular engagement with communities to support long-term partnerships and programme quality.
Operational Reporting & Communication
- Maintain clear communication with Project Leaders, field staff and operational
stakeholders. - Review daily operational reports and produce reports for ITG management.
- Ensure operational information, schedules and emergency documentation are accurate, current and effectively distributed.
