This is your opportunity to relive those Expedition glory days. It means back to energisers, daily debriefs and team in-jokes. It means back to comms calls, the three-bowls system and campfire stories. This is your chance to wear your Raleigh t-shirt once again and create new memories just as life-changing as your first time – and all shared with others who have already done Raleigh, just like you.
Expedition life isn’t easy – you’ll know that already. You’ll pitch your tent under South African skies, have camp rations round the campfire, and live off-grid and notification free in the bush.
It’s early starts, working up a sweat on project work and testing but rewarding trek days. This is life in wild, true Raleigh style, which is what Expedition is all about.
As Raleigh Alumni, you’re one of a kind. The team players, the early risers and the ones who don’t flinch at a cold shower. The Legacy Expedition is for Raleigh Alumni to come together, to share memories, while creating new ones in a breath-taking and challenging environment. Every person round the campfire has had a Raleigh experience, so you can trust that your team will have strong foundations that’ll last beyond the Expedition.
In your hiking boots and bush hat, venture off the beaten track into the Kruger Region of South Africa. Underneath the Drakensberg, you’ll discover the provinces of Mpumalanga and Limpopo. It’s rugged and remote, and a chance to explore a part of South Africa that many others don’t. You’ll experience native wildlife and meet local communities, getting a flavour of local tribal cultures and a taste of a different way of life.
Land in South Africa, transfer to Fieldbase, and settle in with tent set up and a welcome braai. Induction covers safety briefings, team building, and project training, before deploying to the project site and meeting environmental partners.
Three full days of hands-on conservation work, including vulture viewing, environmental education, and permaculture. Wraps up with a final push to complete project work and a group reflection.
Route briefing, kit checks, navigation and safety training, and a short practice hike to prepare for the trail ahead.
Multi-day leadership trek through the Drakensberg Mountains. Each day, one person leads on navigation and group decisions. Camping under South African skies, cooking in the field, pushing through terrain that earns its reward.
A day and a half in Kruger National Park including an overnight stay within the fenceline. Game drives across the wild plains and savannah, searching for Big 5 wildlife in one of the world’s most famous reserves.
The final day back at Fieldbase. Celebrate what you’ve pulled off, reflect on the two weeks, and say the kind of goodbyes that come with knowing you’ll see these people again.
The Alumni Expedition is designed primarily for Raleigh Alumni and their family or partners, aged 25 and over. We’re also happy to welcome people without a previous Raleigh connection who hear about the trip and want to take part, subject to availability.
The Alumni Expedition runs for 2 weeks in South Africa, based out of our Fieldbase near Hoedspruit in the Greater Kruger area.
Yes – the Expedition includes a day and a half in Kruger National Park, including an overnight stay, alongside the community and conservation work that makes up the rest of your two weeks.
The Alumni Expedition costs £2,995 per person. If two people book together, you’ll save 5% off your combined total (2.5% off each individual booking).
Not exactly, and it’s not meant to be. Your Expedition was shaped by the year, country, and group you were in. This one runs to our current standards and current way of working. What’s the same is what Raleigh asks of you: real work, real discomfort, real payoff. That doesn’t change.
The Expedition runs ahead of Cycle 2 2027. The dates are 7th June to 20th June 2027. There are no other dates planned as yet. If you can’t do those dates but are interested in any future dates, please do complete the enquiry form and let us know that.
This is built specifically to fit around adult working lives, but designed carefully to be as rewarding as a longer Expedition. It’s full intensity across every day, project work and trek both included, just without the multi-month time commitment.

While the Legacy Expedition will be shorter than your original Expedition, you should still be prepared for the challenges that come with camping, trekking difficult terrains and carrying a heavy rucksack for days at a time. While the Expedition environment is supportive and widely accessible, you should still be mindful of your personal capabilities and fitness.
No. Any Raleigh Expedition, any country, any year, qualifies you.
Camping every night, camp food cooked over the fire, no alcohol on Expedition, fully off-grid. It will be basic living reminiscent of a real camping experience.
Overnight at one of the Kruger rest camps, with an afternoon and evening game drive included, finishing with a celebration braai.
Raleigh has a long-standing partnership with the Cape Vulture Reserve, so all project work you will carry out will feed into longer term project goals. Your project contribution will further the work conducted on other Raleigh Expeditions, ensuring that your project will contribute meaningfully and sustainably.
