The 8-week Borneo Expedition is the most immersive. It includes all four Challenge Phases in our wildest destination.
From trekking through the Crocker Range, a river safari on the Kinabatangan to restoring mangroves on the Sabah coast and working with indigenous Dusan communities.

COMMUNITY
ACTION
You’ll spend just over 2 weeks in the remote Dusun village of Rumantai. You’ll be continuing the construction of a community church guesthouse and a bird hide, as well making and installing trek route signage.

ENDURANCE
TREK
This is a multi-day off-grid jungle trek along the historic Salt Trail through the Crocker Range. It’s a physically demanding and deeply rewarding journey. At the end of each day, you’ll sleep under the stars, surrounded by the sounds and stillness of the Bornean jungle.

ENVIRONMENTAL
PROTECTION
For around two weeks you’ll live in the coastal community of Sungai Eloi — a blend of hands-on construction, environmental education and cultural exchange, protecting the region’s rich mangrove ecosystems and river biodiversity.

THE FINAL
CHALLENGE
Put every skill you have developed across the course of Expedition into practice. Together with a team work together to achieve a goal. Set out a plan, meet the targets, push yourself, problem solve challenges independently. This could be project based or endurance based. You’ll find out when you get there.

This phase is completely self-led. Staff will be there only for health and safety support but will act as part of the group.

The full 8-week Expedition with Raleigh in Borneo will look like this. You’ll get more detail nearer the time and the order in which you do each Challenge Phase may vary.
3–4 DAYS
INTRODUCTION TO EXPEDITION
For this you’ll be at our Fieldbase – Camp Bongkud. Full of activities and tasks designed so you get to know your fellow Venturers and build trust rapidly to prepare for Expedition life. You’ll receive essential training on topics like health and safety, wildlife briefings, information about project objectives and cultural awareness.
13 DAYS
COMMUNITY
ACTION
Become immersed in a Sabah native community, expanding your perspectives while learning a new way of life and teaming up with them on solutions to local challenges.
2 DAYS
CHANGEOVER
At the end of each phase, everyone returns to Fieldbase ‘Camp Bongkud’ for a few days before moving on to your next Challenge Phase. You’ll catch up with the rest of the Expedition team and start to prepare.Groups will change between each phase, this is an important part of the Expedition experience.

ENDURANCE TREK
You’ll trek across the Salt Crocker Range. On this trek, every day is different, including the weather and the accommodation.

You’ll work on reforestation activities and mangrove rehabilitation, which will support local wildlife, while also raising awareness locally about these issues.

How much does it cost?
The Borneo 8-week Expedition costs can be found here. A 5% deposit secures your place and interest-free payment plans are available. Flights, travel insurance, and visas are not included.
