Raleigh International Launches Kenya Expedition

We are excited to announce that in June 2025, Raleigh International will be launching our newest Expedition in Kenya!

Over 30 years since the last Raleigh Expedition to Kenya in 1989, Raleigh will proudly bring a new generation of young Venturers to this East African country to make a meaningful impact for rural communities and natural habitats through volunteer-run community and environmental projects.

We’re thrilled that applications for this new Expedition have now opened. There will be limited places available for young Venturers aged 17-24 on our first Kenya Expedition in June 2025, in which young people will have the opportunity to join either a 10, 7 or 5 week Expedition. Our second Kenya Expedition will take place from September to December and is now also open for applications.

On our new Expedition, young people will have the chance to immerse into Kenyan life and experience a side of Kenya off the tourist path.

Beginning in the Kwale District, the Raleigh Kenya adventure will start at our Fieldbase in Muhaka, close to stunning coastline and the Indian Ocean, from which they will travel to their projects.

On the Expedition Venturers will make an impact on a community project in the Tsavo Region, where they will support an important School Improvement Programme to improve facilities in a local primary school. Meanwhile on an environmental project, Expedition Venturers will work in forest and coastal areas to support indigenous tree planting and the conservation of precious mangroves.

On the Expedition Venturers will take on a unique adventure challenge, encompassing two different trek throughs through beautiful and arid terrains. First they will explore the savannah plains whilst venturing along the Kasigau Circuit, after which they will trek in the Shimba Hills, an area known for its coastal forests. The adventure challenge will encompass the Raleigh spirit of adventure and personal growth, helping our young Venturers to build their skills, confidence and resilience along the way.

Lucy Constable, Managing Director of Raleigh International, said:

“We are thrilled to be expanding Raleigh Expedition yet again as we introduce Kenya as our new Expedition country. Raleigh has a long history working in East Africa, so we’re delighted to be returning to this part of the world to create even more impact. This Expedition will take young people into the heart of community and environmental projects that need crucial support, and I can’t wait to see the difference that our young people will make, both on their projects and within themselves.”.

Applications are now open

Young people aged 17-24 will be able to join either a 10, 7 or 5-week Raleigh Kenya Expedition from either June-August or September-December 2025. Places are also available for Venturer Managers age 25+.
