Information for Parents.
REAL CHALLENGE.
REAL STRUCTURE.
REAL GROWTH.
Expedition is designed to test limits. It’s tough, it’s wild,
and it redefines what ‘possible’ looks like. Here’s what
you can expect when your young person goes on Raleigh.
NEW ABILITIES. NEW
PERSPECTIVES.
Raleigh is a chance to develop skills most people spend years building – earned in the field, not taught in a classroom. On Expedition, your young person will:
LEARN TO LEAD
When someone has to step up and it turns out to be you.
COLLABORATE
Across cultures on projects that only comes together when you work as a team.
BUILD REAL GRIT
Day after day whatever the terrain and environment throws at you.
GET PROPERLY HANDS-ON
No spectating, no comfort zone. Getting your hands dirty.
BEYOND
EXPEDITION.
Our support doesn’t stop after Venturers get back. The Raleigh Job Board puts Alumni in
front of organisations who value the skills and attitudes they’ve developed as a Venturer.
From local businesses to global corporations, these employers know the importance of
the Raleigh experience.
“
Fran had a life-changing, time-of-her-life experience on her Expedition… She has come back a changed person, now much better prepared for the challenges she will no doubt face at university.

PARENT, 2024
A SCREEN-FREE
ADVENTURE.
For most of their Expedition, Venturers won’t have access to their personal phone. It’s one of the most underrated parts of Raleigh – a unique chance to detox from the doomscroll, ditch the pressures of socials and live in the moment – making real human connections.
You’ll be able catch up directly during Fieldbase changeovers – when Venturers have access to their phone and limited WiFi or mobile data. The rest of the time, you can check in through the in-country team – each group has a project phone, so they’re reachable 24/7.
SAFETY TAKEN
SERIOUSLY
Safety runs through everything Raleigh does, from where we choose to run Expeditions to how thoroughly we train the people who run them. Our Safety Management Systems are robust, practical, and built to work.
01
EXPERIENCED PEOPLE, ON THE GROUND
Our full-time in-country team are experienced, committed, and trained to hold our safety standards to the highest bar. Alongside them, Project Coordinators lead project groups in the field – some with technical or nationally recognised qualifications, like medics or mountain leaders.
02
EMERGENCY ACTION PLANS THAT WORK
On top of first-aid trained staff on every programme, your young person is backed by a robust emergency network — local medical facilities, hospitals, clinics, medics and rapid response teams, all on standby.
03
NO ALCOHOL POLICY
Expedition is alcohol-free. It keeps decisions clear, the group looking out for each other, and everyone safe — including the people you’re working alongside who are relying on it too. It also means better sleep, sharper focus, and zero hangxiety.
AN EXPEDITION WITH
REAL IMPACT
With Raleigh, your young person isn’t just passing through – they’re part of something bigger than themselves.
Raleigh’s projects are:
COMMUNITY LED
Projects run in genuine partnership with local people and organisations. They’re owned by communities, and supported by Venturers.
CULTURALLY IMMERSIVE:
Venturers aren’t just visiting – they’re working and learning from the communities they’re in.
BUILT TO LAST
Designed around the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with longevity at the forefront.
