Raleigh International CEO Stacey Adams to step down after 13 years

Raleigh International focuses on working for and with young people to inspire and empower positive change. Since Stacey joined Raleigh in 2007, more than 20,000 young people from over 25 countries have volunteered on its development programmes. As CEO, Stacey successfully repositioned the organisation into the international development sector.

Stacey commented: “Raleigh International has been much more than a job for me. Its ethos and values of courage and discovery, with the drive to get things done, has been inspirational. Our volunteers make you proud wherever you encounter them. They are the young people out there in society changing things for the better.

“But leadership is also about knowing when to pass on the baton to the next passionate advocate for youth-driven change. The future is bright at Raleigh, we have a strong team and innovation is at the heart of our work. We’re also engaging more young people than ever before, and we are reaching a much wider range of backgrounds in the countries we’re working in and globally. We’re a broad, robust organisation with a much clearer understanding and evidence of the change that can be achieved by working with young people.”

Khalid Koser MBE, chair of the board of Trustees at Raleigh International, congratulated Stacey on her successful leadership of the charity: “Stacey will be a hard act to follow. The evidence is clear that under her leadership Raleigh’s work has had a lifetime impact on young people.

“I think one of the most important things she achieved is to transform Raleigh from an organisation focused on enabling UK youth to experience other environments through Expedition, to a development charity which is focused on empowering young people from various parts of the world to deliver the sustainable development goals.

“Stacey leaves us in a very strong position and I believe in the direction we’re taking as a result of her work. We’ll continue to deliver on our bold 2017-20 strategy and look to our next strategic period with ambition and a much clearer idea of Raleigh’s purpose. That’s both challenging and exciting, and a credit to Stacey.

“We’re delighted that Stacey has agreed to remain in post until the end of the year. We now begin the considerable task of looking for a suitable successor and ensuring there is smooth transition so we can continue empowering young people to deliver sustainable change around the world.”
