The skills you can gain on Raleigh Expedition

The projects you could join

We work in partnership with communities to identify where change is needed most and how we can create lasting positive impact. On our community project you could contribute to vital work improving water and sanitation facilities in rural Nepalese communities or improve access to education in Costa Rica.

We partner with environmental organisations in Costa Rica to support them to maintain Costa Rica’s natural biodiversity on our environmental project. We also work with local communities to enhance knowledge and help people sustain rural resources and adapt to climate change.

Our Adventure Leadership Treks are an essential part of Raleigh Expeditions - It is an opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself in tough terrain whilst developing personally and building skills for the future.

How long can I go away for?

The 10 week Raleigh Expedition is the most immersive of our programs, allowing you to join us for almost three months overseas. You will take part in three different projects, across three different locations.

If you do not have as much time, our 7 week program is a great option to join multiple full-length projects with Raleigh International. You will take part in two different projects in two different locations, where you can choose to work on a Community or Environmental project, alongside an Adventure Leadership Trek.

Our shortest programs are our programs running for 4 or 5 weeks in July and August. These are perfect if you are short on time but full of enthusiasm and really want to get involved. You will have the opportunity to work on a Community or Environment project, in addition to a short Adventure Leadership Trek phase.

Raleigh Nepal Expedition

Volunteer in the world’s highest country and stay and work with local communities to experience Nepal’s rich history and vibrant culture and create lasting change. You will join forces with local people still affected by the effects of the 2015 earthquake to improve access to water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities. Challenge and equip yourself with new skills on the Adventure Leadership Trek by trekking through the spectacular and remote Ruby Valley in the Himalayas. You and your team will take charge and make your own path climbing up to 2500m – a unique challenge to boost your leadership abilities, team working skills and resilience.

You will improve access to national parks by working with rangers in national parks on the environmental project. On the community project you will join forces with local indigenous communities to improve access to education for some of Costa Rica’s most marginalised children by improving educational infrastructure Lastly, build your skills on the adventure leadership trek. Challenge yourself on trek and help lead your team through a variety of stunning routes that tourists don’t get access to.

How much does it cost?

As a charity we talk about fundraising rather than costs and set a minimum fundraising target. This contributes towards Raleigh’s programmes and secures your place. We encourage everyone to do some fundraising activities for their Raleigh Expedition. Our programmes are about prioritising long term impact, not profit. By joining you will be contributing towards the long-term goals of Raleigh International. We offer lots of ways to help with fundraising and we have supported thousands of young people to reach their target.

What is Raleigh International's impact?

Raleigh International is a youth-driven organisation supporting a global movement of young people to take action. We want a fair, inclusive, and green world where young people confront the planet’s most urgent crises. We ignite youth-led action that creates solutions to the world’s most urgent problems. But while young people demand change now, they do not always know how to take action. We support young people by connecting them with the skills, networks, platforms and experiences to lead action on the change they demand.
